PORTFOLIO

During my education, I have executed several projects, not only involving furniture but also interiors. On my website, there are multiple collages showcasing different projects. On my Instagram, I present these projects in various stages to provide a better understanding of the diverse processes I have undergone.

DVDM

LOFT

"OPEN LINES" is the name of the final design applied throughout the entire interior. Based on the information about the 'graphic designers' couple and their design preferences, a design concept emerged that connects lines and volumes. The design is highly playful and features significant variations in height and depth within the interior. The chosen materials are visibly cohesive throughout the entire space.

BLOWING BOWLS

The Landmark assignment required choosing a location and creating a design that symbolized the essence of that place.
I had to choose between Mechelen and Eindhoven, and Eindhoven felt more personal to me. I aimed to design something for a location steeped in history, namely Strijp-S. This area was primarily used for producing lamps, employing the glassblowing technique. I based my concept on this technique and further developed it in the design process. As almost my entire family worked for Philips, this area also holds a piece of my family history. I aimed to reflect this in both my chosen location and design.

GARE MARITIME

Gare MaritimeThe staircase at Gare Maritime in Brussels was an individual project of mine. I visited this staircase to capture photos showcasing its circulation, structure, and ambiance. The design of this staircase is inspired by a beautifully crafted oak staircase in Gare Maritime, Brussels. After a thorough visit and analysis of the existing staircase, I began working on my own design. My design is not only based on the material of the existing staircase but also on the rhythm of the balusters and the different levels.

IT FELT LIKE GEOMETRY

For the furniture assignment, I created a side table made of 5mm thick felt from recycled PET bottles. The clean, simple lines and emphasis on functionality were inspired by the traditional aesthetics of Tatami mats found in Japanese design.
The specification required the furniture to bear 10 kg, posing a challenge in strengthening the felt material. I needed to find a way to reinforce the material without using additional aids, conducting various experiments for this purpose. Ultimately, hardening the material proved to be the key to achieving the weight-bearing capacity. Through processes involving heating, applying water, and subsequent cooling, I managed to make the material firm enough to be used as furniture.

KITCHEN

For the assignment "Cooking," the task was to create a kitchen within an existing chapel, integrating two volumes. We had the option to choose from various renowned chefs from around the world. My choice quickly fell upon chef Jeong Kwan.
The opportunity to work with an Asian culinary style immediately appealed to me.
The open and sleek minimalist design from Asia served as my inspiration for the design concept, using the chapel as the foundation. The powerful lines and surfaces in this minimalist design resonated with me the most and consequently became my primary source of inspiration for both the spatial design and the kitchen.

BATHROOM LEUVEN

For the assignment 'bathroom,' I had the choice between several images, and I chose the image of the Dead Valley in Namibia. I selected this image because of its serene atmosphere and striking orange color. In my analysis, the tree in the center of the image stood out, with branches that could serve as inspiration for the concept and functional elements of the bathroom. Ultimately, my greatest inspiration came from the undulating sand dunes and the dominant orange color in the image. These wavy movements formed the basis for the design of the walls in the bathroom, and these flowing shapes ensured a pleasant circulation in the space, coupled with associated functions.
